Diisopropylphenyl 2nd Generation Hoveyda Catalyst

February 16, 2011 By Andy Nickel

Diisopropylphenyl 2nd Generation Hoveyda Catalyst1
– CAS#: [635679-24-2]
– FW: 711
– Color: Green
– Initiation temperature: >0 °C

Process Strengths Weaknesses
CM -Highly efficient in reactions involving ethylene
-Most efficient reported catalyst for forming (most) trisubstituted olefins by CM
-Hindered substrates

Despite its first report in the literature in 2003,1 this catalyst has received relatively little attention. Like its close relative, it has shown to be an efficient catalyst for the ethenolysis of methyl oleate (to methyl-9-decenoate and 1-decene).2 It has also shown promise in some challenging cross metathesis reactions to prepare trisubstituted olefins.3
