Diisopropylphenyl 2nd Generation Grubbs Catalyst1
(PCy3 = tricyclohexylphosphine)
– CAS#: [373640-75-6]
– FW: 933
– Color: Brown
– Initiation temperature: 0 °C
Process | Strengths | Weaknesses |
CM | -Highly efficient in reactions where ethylene is a substrate or product -Low temperature (<50 °C) reactivity |
-Hindered substrates |
RCM | -Ultra-fast in forming di- and tri-substituted olefins | -Hindered substrates |
nd Generation Grubbs catalyst only in the substitution pattern around its N-heterocyclic carbene aryl rings, but these bulky isopropyl groups have a dramatic effect on catalyst reactivity. The precatalyst initiation is much faster than other ruthenium systems in RCM2 and ADMET3 reactions, especially at lower temperatures (<30 °C). In CM reactions, this catalyst has been shown to provide higher turnover numbers in reactions where ethylene is a substrate4 or a product.5
